Unfortunately I’m not writing this after the blast of a nice rainfall. Weather this week has helped push along Tar Spot and some other diseases as humidity has ramped up, cloudy days, followed with some extra heat for additional stress. Wanted to just shoot an update as some of the planes are going. Tar spot seems to be more so a field by field for severity rather than specific hybrids. Below are some highlighted notes and general suggestions. The area Pioneer group will be going through our Test plot on Wednesday as we continue to go through the new/existing hybrids.
P13777PCUE – Holding off Tar Spot well South and East of Cedar. Have seen Tar progress more so west and North of Cedar and have a few fields marked to Spray at the end of this week. Almost no progression above the ear which is a good sign, but still want to stay ahead of it.
P14364PCUE – New 114 day and similar to P13777, the progression is slow but can find it moving along.
P12904v/AML – Bacterial Leaf Streak is present and catches the eye, but almost NO Tar spot, rated very well for Tar and it’s holding it’s case.
P10625PCUE – Tar Spot was found and progressed North of Cedar, Slower in other spots.
P12517v/PCUE – New 112 day that was Only available corn on corn this year but coming with a Corn on bean PCUE version for 2027, I’d argue today that it’s the cleanest hybrid. Again that is today as I type, will continue to monitor but excited for that one to come both ways.
P11056PCE – New 111 day looking to replace 1170. Slightly Taller plant and looking good so far. We took some hail on this hybrid out west and still looking strong.
P14830AML – Still a Fan of this 114 day with giant leaves and nice dark green color. South of Cedar, this number has the Tar spot just starting, but similar to the 13777 in that area it is slow to progress and below the ear.
If you have any questions or concerns always feel free to call or Text. In General the Spray recommendations are turning towards the Green Light and I would go towards the Corn on Corn first. Ultimately hoping timing it in this R2 phase brings us to a great ROI on our Fungicide investment, while only needing to hit the fields once!
